Preveli beach

It is definitely the most famous beach of Southern Crete, but also one of the most famous beaches in Greece. The beach that receives thousands of visitors every year is formed at the exit of Mega Potamos that crosses the Kourtaliotis Gorge, amidst the stunning natural scenery created by the imposing rocks and the Foinikes of Theofrastos. It is a sandy beach with pebbled bottom and very cool water due to the river. In the eastern part of the beach there is a beautiful rock reminiscent of a mast.

It is poorly organized, with no umbrellas, thus preserving and enhancing the natural environment of the area. In the past, it was the hippies’ favorite destination.

The beach can be reached in three ways:

  • By car to the lake parking lot 500 meters before the Monastery and downhill walk for 15 minutes (steps and path)
  • By car to the beach of Drimiskiano Ammoudi (East of Preveli beach) and from there walk through the footpath (10 km)
  • By boat from the port of Plakias
